Pirelli temporary shut down
Time:2008-09-01
Tyre manufacturer Pirelli has closed its plants in Carlisle and Burton on Trent temporarily so that urgently needed maintenance work on boilers can be undertaken.

The Carlisle plant was closed last Thursday and closure of the Burton on Trent plant took place the following day.

A company spokeswoman said the plants should reopen over the weekend. She added that following problems with a boiler at the Carlisle plant, other boilers at the two plants were now being inspected as a precaution.

The spokeswoman said: “Management is continuously monitoring the boiler situation and is keeping the workforce and union representatives informed.

“We are working together to try and minimise the impact upon our employees, and hope to resume production as soon as possible.”
