Recycled PC/ABS on-line from Bayer |
A recycled grade of PC/ABS has been developed by Bayer MaterialScience and will be sold through the Internet site www.viverso.com. The new Levblend material is derived from post-production waste from the Uerdingen and Antwerp plants and will initially be marketed exclusively to vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers based in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The next step will be to distribute the product throughout the whole of Europe. Intended applications will include add-on body parts, component assemblies and front and rear headlamps. Bayer is stressing the green aspect of the product - "responsible use of raw materials and the sustainability of its plastics production operations". It also sees Levblend as being attractive as a factor in car companies' cost-cutting programmes. But to meet automotive requirements it is also promising "a continuous supply of raw materials and assured availability". Selling the product on-line through Viverso also means that orders can be processed rapidly and cost-effectively, says Bayer. The first grade is Levblend 80 which has a heat resistance to Vicat VST/B120 (between 124 and 134 degC) in line with ISO 306. The melt volume flow rate (MVR, 260 degC/5 kg) ranges from 5 to 16 cm³/10 min in line with ISO standard 1133. Notched impact strength at room temperature according to ISO 180/A is at least 25 kJ/m². Levblend 80 will initially only be available in black, and colour customisation is not planned. |
