DSM snaps up Diolen
Time:2008-08-22
DSM Engineering Plastics is to acquire the polymerisation assets of Diolen Industrial Fibres BV for an undisclosed sum.

The deal includes the facilities for the polyester polymer production in Emmen, the Netherlands, which will be integrated with DSM¡¯s polyester compounding facility also in Emmen.

DSM will offer jobs to 45 Diolen employees out of a total workforce of around 600 affected.

DSM said the move will give it backward integration into polyester polymer production for its engineering plastic product lines Arnitel TPC, Arnite PBT and Arnite PET.

Business manager for the three brands, Frederic Petit, said: ¡°This acquisition allows us to maintain our supply of high quality products and services and retain our position as a sustainable partner within the performance materials industry.

¡°Both consistency and security of supply are key considerations for our customers. We are pleased that this step has given us a stronger position in being able to meet their requirements.

¡°In the meantime, we continue to invest in innovations, new products and new technology development for our customers."

Last year DSM Engineering Plastics generated sales of €839m and the company employs 1,550 people worldwide.
