Sirane switches to paper
Time:2008-08-13
UK packaging firm Sirane is switching from plastics to a polyethylene craft coated paper to be used as absorbent food pads.

The move by the Telford-based firm follows its acquisition of Thomas and Green (T&G) earlier this month, which will expand its absorbent packaging materials offering in Europe.

As part of the takeover, T&G will relocate from its Hereford base to Sirane’s new factory in Stafford Park, Telford. The bulk of absorbent food pads – used as a barrier between food trays and cuts of meat – will switch from the previous PE and PP formats to a polyethylene craft coated paper.

Sirane’s chief executive of sales and marketing, Jeremy Haydn-Davies told PRW.com that paper was “more environmentally friendly and keeps the product rigid”.

Sirane, which aims to turn over £10m at its Stafford Park factory by the end of the year, has recently expanded into the US market.

Simon Balderson, Sirane director added: “Over 35% of Sirane current sales are now based on products that we weren’t making twelve months ago.

“This is in fact mainly due to the appetite of the market and Sirane’s consequent commitment to creating packaging innovation for the needs of the client – a commitment which we are now delighted to extend to the T&G order book.”
