Two processing aids and two heat stabilizers for rigid PVC construction products can seriously help raise performance. Plastistrength 770 is a lubricating acrylic process aid with enhanced metal release that is said to be more effective than previous products in preventing "burned" spots. A drop-in replacement for other process aids allows sensitive formulations to run faster. It is also said to maintain PVC's rheological behavior and excellent optical properties.
Also new is Plastistrength 530 acrylic process aid, said to enhance high-output processing of foam, wood-filled compounds, and combines quick fusion with low viscosity to maximize output. It also can promote good out-door weathering.
Meanwhile, Thermolite 140 is a new butyltin mercaptide heat stabilizer designed for coextruded siding, profiles, and fencing as well as more demanding pipe applications where good color hold and stability are needed. It imparts excellent early color and good dynamic stability.
On the other hand, the New Thermolite 179 butyltin mercaptide is designed for high output extrusion (3000 lb/hr) or siding. It reportedly imparts exceptional weathering and excellent color hold. It can be used in substrate and topcoat formulations, eliminating the need for a second stabilizer. It has a tin content of 8% to 9%, whereas typical siding stabilizers contain 12% tin, which is said to be "too rich", while pipe stabilizers (6% tin) are too weak to do the job.
